Hello, I'd like to implement this rather easily escalable blog as a multimedia one for musicians. The first issues I encountered was the old dependencies it has.

Why does it need rcov, which needs actionwebservice, which asks for specific old versions of actionpack and activerecord? How could I avoid it?

Thank you;

Eugenio.

Just now, version 0.6.2 of Chameleon was released. Version 0.6.2 is a quite large release, that adds some new features and fixes some bugs.

In this release many bugs were fixed, some severe ones that would prevent you from creating new posts, and some less important ones. In general, these bug fixes will make Chameleon more stable, so it's recommended you upgrade to this version. I'd also like to thank everyone who reported bugs.

Additionally, this release also ships with a few new features. Along the same line, this release adds unit tests for most of the Chameleon code, which made it possible to find a few bugs, and will make it easier to solve issues in the future. We upgraded to Rails 1.2, which is more stable than Rails 1.1, and includes some new features that should also ease development in the future. Finally, James also added a live preview and an auto-save function to the write page, which should make working with Chameleon easier.

You can download Chameleon 0.6.2 (Beta) at http://chameleon.wikidot.com/download, and follow the instructions in the README included in the package to install it. These instructions and a lot more information are also available on the website.
Because Chameleon is still in beta, some problems might occur. Report any issues in the bug tracker.

Chameleon 0.6.1.1 has been released.

Version 0.6.1.1 is a bugfix release. This small release fixes only one bug, but a severe one. In Chameleon 0.5.5, 0.6.0 and 0.6.1, it was possible for a malicious user to obtain data from the database by loading a specially crafted URL. On some databases, particularly on Microsoft SQL Server, it is possible a user even might be able to edit and delete data. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade as soon as possible.

You can download Chameleon 0.6.1.1 (Beta) at http://chameleon.wikidot.com/download, and follow the instructions in the README included in the package to install it. To upgrade, simply copy the new files over the old ones. Only the file app/controllers/blog_controller.rb changed, so replacing that one is enough.
These instructions and a lot more information are also available on the website.

I plan to expand it for my college magazine site and to use the ample admin functions back-end for every writer to log in and use.

I have a few problems however. I am a rails noob and this is one of my first projects.

Firstly how should I access the home page? I get the default rails page at the moment.

Secondly I get an error when i try to 'manage comments' it says:
uninitialized constant RedCloth

What does this mean and am i the only one having this problem?

Keep up the great work JW and if i can provide any help please let me know!

Cheers,
James

Today, version 0.6.1 of Chameleon was released. Version 0.6.1 is mainly a bugfix release.

One major new feature has been added: a new default theme. I found the previous theme to be unsatisfying, while its code was very clear and it was a good theme to base other themes on, it wasn't beautiful enough to be the default theme. The HTML code of the new theme, conveniently dubbed "Simple theme v2.0", is largely based on that of "Simple theme", the previous default theme, however, the CSS has been completely reworked to give the theme a beautiful look. This theme aims to give a good first impression, show how Chameleon is different in its design, and be a good starting point for new themes, all at the same time.

Furthermore, there have been some bug fixes since version 0.6.0. Accordingly, for example, the navigation bar has been reworked to work correctly on a wide range of web browsers, and the defunct Featured Posts plugin has been removed.

You can download Chameleon 0.6.1 (Beta) at http://chameleon.wikidot.com/download, and follow the instructions in the README included in the package to install it. These instructions and a lot more information are also available on the website.
Because Chameleon is still in beta, some problems might occur. Report any issues in the bug tracker.
